Wrecked: Movie Review

http://movies.netflix.com/Movie/Wrecked/70180295?trkid=1851333

3 of 5 stars

1st, the entire film is done in ONE place, more than half in a car, the rest outside the car. Right up to the last minute one keeps waiting for something to happen to make this movie make some sense. It never does. With 20 minutes left I knew it was a loser of a film, but by then I figured may as well see what they used to justify an ending. A cell phone that traveled a river for miles, now works? So many loose ends are left hanging, we never know what happened to the dog or to the black guy, or to the main character or the woman.

Credibility is completely shot which is amazing in such a limited scenario. This was a poor attempt to remake Memento, a dismal failure. What was good about it? Brody's acting was brilliant, he cried exactly the way I would have (& have done) in same or similar situations, that frustrated want to give up cry. One feels & experiences all of this as if you are the main character. Otherwise, give it a pass.

Secretariat You rated this movie: 5 of 5 stars

I was surprised to recognize Nelsan Ellis (who plays Lafayette Reynolds on HBO's True Blood) as Eddie Sweat the horse handler in this film, and he played his character so well I didn't recognize him as Lafayette until more than half way through this film. Ellis' talent is hitching a ride on a shooting star with the level of acting he shows in his roles.

90% of the reviews are 5 Stars, this movie well deserves them. A feel good movie with tons of suspense and action, edge of the seat & nail biting scenes of hope & frustration, this was even better than Seabiscuit. The few bad reviews sad the acting was wooden? Everyone involved with the horse was amazing & credible, the supporting cast--such as the husband--could have been better actors, but with so little screen time it hardly mattered. The horse was the star, and rightly so.

I'm not a horse racing fan, yet Big Red had me cheering him on too. Highly recommend seeing this, perhaps even buying it for another view or three, it's a timeless classic with a feel good ending that is satisfying in every way, and the excellent production quality, script, dialogue, acting & every aspect pulled us along side them as if we owned Big Red & were taking the same millions of dollars gamble. Hurrah hurrah!

Review of No Strings Attached

No Strings Attached
Some of the reviewers didn't even watch the film--what kind of review is that? Some described things that never happened in this movie, others knew what the movie was about, watched it anyway & then bashed the whole concept as being stupid--well then why did they watch it if they don't like these kind of movies or plots??? I got exactly what I expected from this movie, the descriptions & previews were accurate, the acting was better than I expected from a comedy that could have been spoofy or silly but wasn't. Depicting a societal reality for many people in a credible, realistic, yet funny & sexy way, does NOT advocate promiscuous sex, no F-bombs, no frontal nudity of either/any, a brief butt shot of Kutcher is about as explicit as it gets. Focusing more on the characters, this is NOT a sex movie getting cheap gags or exploiting people for laughs. Highly recommend this, would watch again.

Review of Bo Burnham: Words, Words, Words

Bo Burnham: Words, Words, Words

One major problem not mentioned is the bad edits, over 30 before I lost count of the black screen cuts between every single skit whether he changed places, positions or even stories, blank screen cuts ruined it repeatedly, worse the angle didn't change so why it cut in between??? The humor is intelligent BUT it's also as if he thinks he's too smart for the audience, or anyone, and he is all over the place topic & skit wise, about 75% music. I would not watch this again nor do *I recommend it because there are much funnier acts to spend the time & money to see. Maybe someday he will polish his act a bit, get some humility, be worth the time and money, but he's not there yet unfortunately.

Review of Repo! The Genetic Opera

Repo! The Genetic Opera

I'm not a fan of musicals, opera or bloody horror, BUT this one is an awesome blend of all 3 that beats the ones I did sort of like (Clockwork Orange, RHPS & Burlesque) & I can't imagine this movie done any other way. The gore was about 7-10 minutes MAX of the entire film, the music--even opera which I deeply dislike--was fantastic, the acting great, the story wild & cartoonish at times, yet spot on. LOVED this movie, plan to buy the DVD. I'm 48 this month so am not a teen goth, viewer doesn't need to be to appreciate this, MUCH better than the RHPS of my youth, as good as Burlesque in its own unique way. Sexy, futuristic, gothic, dark, incredible story intentionally campy & an instant cult classic. Unpredictable twists, no boring parts to fast forward through, no F-bombs, very little if any nudity, highly recommend this & WILL watch it repeatedly on DVD. The costumes & production were excellent. Had hoped for a soundtrack but this used in-house musicians, bummer.

Review of Inception

Inception
Wish I could give it 10 stars! From the start one is thrown into the dream, and it races from there so fast one can barely keep up! Nail biting edge of the seat suspense, excellent acting, awesome graphics that never looked fake, superb plot & imagination, this is one worth buying & seeing repeatedly. More than one view may be necessary to GET all the layers in this movie, it moves too fast to keep up AND think at same time on 1st view. Blown away by the acting of everyone in this, especially Page & DiCaprio--wouldn't have thought of them for this type of movie. Nolan reminded me of Neo in Matrix, the fight scenes were a bit Matrix like too, but those gravity effects were so seamless. I couldn't figure out how they did it. Unfortunately there are NO special features, & for this it needed some featurette & story line background, one thing I hate about the streaming aspect is those missing necessary bits.

Review of Middle Men

Middle Men
The best movie I've seen in years. Moby & Stones music, mob, porn, murder, greed, adultery, lust, envy, one keeps wondering when the lead character play by Wilson, will get out before the getting is gone, but he doesn't and therein lies the fantastic ending. Unpredictable, surprise wrap up, everyone gets what they deserve, very satisfying. Theme of redemption underlying the drama. Nudity but no sex, violence but nothing gory, each element was done perfectly, nothing overdone or unbalanced. What a great script, excellent character building & acting from everyone involved. At 1st I thought this would be like a documentary, but when I saw the stars attached to this, it lent credibility so I took it more seriously, and this is not a funny film. It is a dramatic action film. Definitely worth buying & seeing again. Highly recommend this, it beats anything else released in the last two years, easy.

Review of Black Eyed Peas: Bring in the Noise...

Black Eyed Peas: Bring in the Noise...
I wish I'd read the reviews before seeing this, it's exactly as described, some high school kids media project of narration so poorly done & boring it was nearly unbearable, along a slow slide show of media images of the BEP, that's ALL, no music, no motion or live video at all, zilch. Do NOT waste your time on this, like I ended up doing. After 43 minutes of waiting for SOME actual BEP content, I gave up!

Review of Case 39

Case 39
I had forgotten it was a thriller, if I ever knew. I found out about 25% in that this was a scary movie. Unfortunately, the credibility is completely shot, with bees coming out of someones ears--thousands of them--and similar such scenes, as well as the ending--there's no way a human made it but not the demon monster kid. This has been done before much better & with true credibility to make one believe what one saw, here that's not the case. The acting was great, the script & situations sucked. The visual & audio quality was good, effects, some gore & lots of blood--pools of it in fact--the suspense was quite well done, if one can suspend their disbelief which this film makes a challenge. Everything happening was ideas somehow planted in their minds & based on their biggest fear--over done to death in other movies, why repeat the exact same plot? Find a new way to tell the tale, please! Don't bother renting, maybe if free on TV & one is bored?

Amazon: IMAX

Amazon: IMAX
Gee the description above tells exactly what this is about, so how is it people are complaining for getting what is described??? Has anyone bothered to read the description before watching? I never know what to believe in these reviews because more than half are bald lies by miserable people. Anyway, it's 38 minutes long, worth every second! Some people expect a mini-series worth of info in short films, I know better. With the time used, it was extremely well spent & covered a lot of ground while being literally breathtaking. The animals shown I didn't even realize (still) existed--such as sloths--but this doesn't say ANIMALS of the Amazon, nor Tribes nor medicine of the Amazon, it is a general film on the Amazon & you will know much more at the end than you did at the start, no matter what education level you have. This would need to be packaged with extras to be worth buying though, paying same price for 38 minutes as for feature length with special features, would be a rip off.
