Things I Learned From Watching Horror Movies 1) When a killer is loose, it's always a good idea to sneak up on your friends. 2) Adults are idiots. 3) Local law enforcement are idiots. 4) The crazy old guy in town is always right. 5) When you get shot or stabbed, you won't go into shock. 6) Even if the killer has been electrocuted, impaled, and/or blown up, he's still alive. 7) Monsters know where circuit breakers are and how to turn them off. 8) Regardless of how dependable your vehicle is, it will not start when you are being chased by a killer. 9) If you're African American, you will die. 10) If you're the hero's best friend, you will die. 11) It was only a dream. 12) Even if the killer is human, he has superhuman strength. 13) When you hear a sound in the other room, always say hello and ask if anyone is in there. 14) Cell phones don't work anywhere. 15) The phone cord is always cut. 16) No matter how creepy the hillbilly family looks, you can trust them. 17) Don't have sex - you will die. 18) When the killer is downstairs, always run upstairs. 19) Once you've hit the killer, always check to see if he's really dead, or run away. 20) When you're sneaking through a house, a cat or bird will startle you. 21) Ghosts like to just knock things off shelves and slam doors. 22) Your neighbors can't hear gunshots, screams, or explosions. 23) Windows are always unlocked. 24) No matter how slow the killer walks, he will catch up with you. 25) There's always a storm when you're checking out an old house. 26) Killers like to hang up their victims to scare the hero. 27) When someone knocks you out, you won't get a concussion. 28) All doors creak. 29) If there are any fragile objects such as glass, they will break. 30) The first phone caller is not the killer.

Bag of Bones (Movie Review)

Bag of Bones is a Stephen King novel made into a better movie than most of his works have been. One thing you must know going in is that this movie, on netflix streaming anyway, is a TWO-PART two episode film, each roughly 85 minutes long. Called a mini-series, is misleading in that this is just a two part film, not a series. At 1st I was upset because I didn't know it was in 2 parts, then didn't know if 2nd part finished or another season was planned. So for those wondering, the 2nd part ends the story, everyone gets what they deserve except one, and most plot holes are sealed. There were some issues of credibility sprinkled throughout, but overall this was one of the better King screen adaptations. I didn't like the commercial break edits & wish they would just remove those before releasing a film this way. I'd read the book long enough ago that this was new to me again, I think other reviewers have read it more recently & so were disappointed, not I. This was well acted by all involved, an amazing cast who fit perfectly into their roles & balanced each other well. Definitely worth watching & better than most other King books made movies. However, skip the 1st 5 minutes of the 2nd episode, it is exactly the same as the 1st episode to the point I wasn't sure it was a new episode at all. Enjoy.

The other reviewers assume we've seen the original, and they compare the two, without once actually reviewing for those who never saw the original. I'd not seen this before, so can only compare it to others of its class. The acting was incredibly good, as were the effects, 99% was credible--not going to ruin it by telling you which parts weren't. This is not a romanticized version of vampires such as Twilight and other recent fare--this is old school horror but does not focus on that as much as the relationships between the characters, not to say there wasn't plenty of gore, because there definitely was. I'd agree that children under 17 should not view this without a parent or guardian, or if they are easily frightened. (The motion picture industry seems to have no consistency in its guidelines for ratings). This movie wasn't as predictable as one would think, enough surprises to thrill without the cover-your-eyes, bite your nails suspense, though it has those moments, they are rare enough to make this enjoyable even for those who are easily frightened or dislike anxiety provoking suspense. Definitely worth seeing if one enjoys horror & drama. One feels for the characters, so they are sympathetic even as they may seem evil. I would watch it again and will recommend it to others.

I had forgotten it was a thriller, if I ever knew. I found out about 25% in that this was a scary movie. Unfortunately, the credibility is completely shot, with bees coming out of someones ears--thousands of them--and similar such scenes, as well as the ending--there's no way a human made it but not the demon monster kid. This has been done before much better & with true credibility to make one believe what one saw, here that's not the case. The acting was great, the script & situations sucked. The visual & audio quality was good, effects, some gore & lots of blood--pools of it in fact--the suspense was quite well done, if one can suspend their disbelief which this film makes a challenge. Everything happening was ideas somehow planted in their minds & based on their biggest fear--over done to death in other movies, why repeat the exact same plot? Find a new way to tell the tale, please! Don't bother renting, maybe if free on TV & one is bored?
