The video was poor quality about 85% of the time, extremely pixelated especially when in dark or fast moving situations, which is almost the entire movie. The music is OK, not great because nothing was really featured but the same steady beat repeatedly, with a few spices thrown in here & there--that beat was IT & it hit hard, all I can say for it. The movie definitely does NOT tell anything about Donnie Disco, and is misleading in its title to say so, in fact one doesn't know what role he played in this event even after watching the movie (he's a party promoter? I thought he was supposed to be a DJ? Very confusing). I wish there had been more focus on the dancing & the actual experience of the rave, without all the blurry pixelated video or the so-called special effects, or the useless interviews. The previews & the summary or description for this movie is untrue to the point of being nearly bait & switch--maybe if you go into this with NO expectations at all, you may get some small satisfaction but even that is doubtful. I truly wanted to know & experience the rave culture, and after watching this, I still have no solid idea what it was about, nor did this make it seem attractive. Perhaps if they had followed fewer people, focusing more on a few key players instead of trying to cover too many, the movie may have succeeded, not to mention the Mardi Gras footage which didn't belong in this film, didn't add to it & in fact seemed more like padding to fill the time out. Don't waste your time on this unless you truly have nothing better to do, because even the music sucks, the video is awful quality, there's no organization or plot to this, not much to recommend it. Sad to say.

As a fan, producer/remixer & artist/music promoter, I appreciated the history, the brief samples & descriptions of different electronic music styles, the equipment & experience over views, how difficult it is to travel 16 hours for a 4 hour show, the energy exchanged between DJ's and crowd, the history & background is especially good. However, there should have been more focus on the MUSIC, less on the naked women; less street & transportation footage & more MUSICAL; more examples of styles & actual sounds, better focus, editing out the junk to fill with prime material instead. I gave 4 stars, really deserves 3, but there are so few documentaries on this industry, few that include even half the content this covered in 90 minutes, so an extra star for history. Start a few radio stations, stop letting people download free, to listen free is enough. Sell your CD's, if good we will buy them; if free or suck, we won't. Supply & demand, simple. Recommend this to fans & DJs alike.

Features the 38 Cal DJ's only, written produced filmed & directed by same person, fair to good quality picture, sound & subjects. The only focus is the scratch & volume button, nothing else is covered, including none of the other slide switches or knobs--even when they were used, no explanation was given for what they were used for. How to choose records, or match BPMs, were NOT covered. If you just bought a turntable or two & never scratched, this is for you, otherwise it isn't very informative or instructional as to other skills & equipment used as a DJ. I could not hear much difference between the different scratches & the DJ's who demonstrated them had their own definitions but no differences between one's chirp and another's. MC's were featured, and multi-turntable DJ'ing with hip hop rap genre only. I'd rather have had more explanations of the equipment than 4 different DJ demos for every scratch, which added nothing to the film, so I gave it 3 stars. Over half the DJ's wore masks over their faces, why?
